Plump Up Your Repertoire!
The weather was hot and humid outside, but inside the air-conditioned dance studio, our workshop with Shamira was sizzling HOT!
An instructor so
generous with her time and talent, Shamira helped enrich our attendees'
repertoire by teaching sensuous, slinky, hot dance moves. How to
execute a move flawlessly, easily, gracefully!
Teaching not only
moves, but variations to suit different moods and whims.
Shamira presented different patterns and combinations from her treasure-chest of gorgeous dance steps, even adding some veil work! That's really "Plumping Up Your Repertoire!"
Being the consummate, unselfish instructor that she is, Shamira as per always, provided each and every participant with a written-out step by step instruction to take home and practice from, or to pass on to their own students. We had a fabulous mix of very talented, dedicated bellydance students, teachers, and aficionados.
There was shopping for jingly/sparkly things and a big bag of veils to borrow. Delicious, decadent cookies were on the house.

Here's what Shamira imparted, in 3 sections:
1) Slow Patterns - I had put together some very sexy, sensuous moves into short patterns that you can use separately wherever you want. Or if you put them all together, you'll actually get a cohesive choreography because I designed the last move of each pattern to flow smoothly into the first move of the pattern after it. As you know, I like to teach simple things that you can actually use a LOT and make "your own" rather than some high-falutin' choreography that's full of fancy steps that don't even look good on someone else. It's all about taking your basic moves - like circles, fig 8's, undulations, arms, etc, and putting them together in a way that no matter how simple they might be, they look gorgeous and mesmerizing not only to your audience, but to your own inner soul.
2) Upbeat Patterns - When you're dancing to fast music, it's a really good idea to have an arsenal of simple patterns that you can pull out of your hat and mix and match them, so that you don't end up repeating the same steps over and over because you can't think of anything else to do!
3) Veil dance - We did a couple of moves from the new veil dance that I am preparing for my next DVD. Just a little teaser to add to their repertoire of veil technique.
