Shamira and her "Twelve Veils of Christmas"
as performed during December 19, 2004, DVD release Party.
Yallah Dance!
With "Shamband" playing a slow hypnotic masmoudi rhythm with solo taxims of oud (Maurice Chedide), kanoun (Michael Hess), and violin (Elias Sarkar) over the rhythm, led by her percussionists Gamal Shafik (lead tabla), Ira Weitz (bass tabla), Aziz Mohammed (riq) and Gabby Tawil (bendir), Shamira brought out an Egyptian bag containing 12 veils to the middle of the dance floor.
"Shamband" began their dreamy rhythm and when the narrator said "On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me....." Shamira pulled out one colored veil after another, representing different concepts to her.
On the 1st day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... LOVE
On the 2nd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... DREAM
On the 3rd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... DESTINY
On the 4th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... LIFE
On the 5th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... INSPIRATION
On the 6th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... STRENGTH
On the 7th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... SPIRIT
On the 8th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... ETERNITY
On the 9th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... HEALING
On the 10th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... COURAGE
On the 11th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... PROTECTION
On the 12thday of Christmas, my true love gave to me .... MAGIC
And it was indeed MAGIC!!
